Market North End

Our friends, Mary and Dave Hines, met us for lunch recently at Market North End in Birmingham at 474 N.Old Woodward. When looking for this restaurant you need to pay special attention to the address because the signage is hard to see. Mark and I have been to this restaurant before and he especially likes the garlic soup. It is brothy, not creamy, with a strong garlic flavor and includes chicken, potatoes, carrots, onions, bread and topped with melted cheese.

Mary had the Pesto Pizza, which was very good. It was topped with pesto, of course, roasted tomatoes, red onion, and pine nuts. The pizza was thin and crispy. Dave had a ham and egg sandwich, which was good but not as interesting as the other dishes we ordered. I had the Milanese sandwich, which I was told is one of their most popular menu items.

It is a breaded chicken breast on pizza bread. The chicken is topped with cheese, arugula, and a mustard vinaigrette. On this visit, Mary's pizza came to the table way before our other orders. If you order pizza, you may want to ask your waitperson to coordinate the food delivery.
