Cafe Muse Review

During Royal Oak restaurant week, Mark and I thought we would take advantage of the bargain price of $25 for a three-course meal. Mark ordered off the regular menu, which was Karaage Ginger Marinated Chicken. The ginger in it was noticeable but not overpowering. Mark also had the cheese and broccoli soup, which was outstanding and different than any other we have had. We found out that one of the cheeses use was Cotswold, giving the soup the extra zing of onions and chives.

To start off, I had a watermelon and arugula salad that was deliciously refreshing. The salad also included a nice bite from pickled beets, a tang from a sprinkle of feta, and some sweet apple pieces. It was dressed with a lime vinaigrette. The combination was fantastic.

My entree was a half chicken with tarragon served on a bed of mashed red skin potatoes. It was a pleasant surprise that the licorice flavor of the tarragon permeated the meat and the skin was crispy. This too was a delicious bite, but I didn’t see it on the regular menu. I hope they add it.

My meal ended with warm butterscotch pudding topped crumbled toffee and chantilly cream. The pudding wasn’t gelled as much as most puddings are, so it made me feel like I was eating a cloud of butterscotch and cream. I usually am too full to eat dessert but I couldn’t stop until it was all gone. The salad and the dessert are on Cafe Muse’s regular menu and I encourage you to try them. I am pretty sure you won’t be disappointed.
