The Block Review

A friend and I wanted to catch up over dinner, and I chose The Block at 3919 Woodward in Midtown Detroit as our destination. I had heard some great things about it and wanted to try it out. It had a sleek, modern vibe and our meals were terrific. We arrived during happy hour, which was very reasonable priced but we chose to order from the regular dinner menu. I chose the Pistachio Salmon coated with pistachios and horseradish making a crunchy topping with a little kick. Beneath the salmon was a tasty light and creamy champagne sauce. The sides of roasted carrot and green beans along with jasmine rice were also nicely done.

My friend ordered the Sassy Catfish Po'boy, which to her delight was a real soul food dish. The cornmeal crust was peppery giving it a little heat. A Cajun remoulade accompanied the meal. The fish was perched on hoagie bread with lettuce, tomato, and a red cabbage slaw. We couldn't pass up tasting the Vanilla Rum Bread Pudding for dessert. You could distinctly taste the vanilla and rum. I will be sure to put this restaurant on my lis of places to return.
