ML Burger Wins the War - review

In March I posted a review of my two favorite places for burgers--The B Spot and Luxe. Well, move over because I think my new favorite is the ML Burger at the ML Cafe on Maple and Lahser. It is juicy, sweet, and earthy all at once.

The grind includes ground chuck, brisket, and short rib giving the burger an excellent texture and flavor. Topping the burger served on a brioche bun was sweet caramelized onions and earthy tones from the truffle cheese and truffle aioli. The peppery taste of arugula and a fresh slice of tomato added to the lovely flavor combination. I have to admit that I am a sucker for the taste of truffles. In fact, I love the thin, crispy fries topped with truffle oil and parmesan cheese at the Town Tavern in Royal Oak. The Town and the ML Cafe, along with several other restaurants, are owned by Bill Roberts, and the Roberts Restaurant Group.

On this dinner adventure, my husband, Mark and I were with our friends Becky and Rich Sorensen and Karole and Eric Davies. Among the items I tasted, my favorites were the Short Rib Steamed Buns with kimchee, hoisin, and scallions ordered by Mark. They were flavor-packed without being too spicy. Rich's Brussel Sprout & Red Quinoa Salad made the top of my list as well. The sprouts and quinoa were tossed with lettuce, toasted walnuts, and red grapes with a citrus vinaigrette that brought a brightness to the dish. We will be sure to dine there more often.
